Description:
I ownKnobs.co, a retail cabinet hardware site. I want to manufacture a line of unique, 3D printed cabinet hardware. This contest is for the design for one cabinet knob or pull. However, should I find a designer whose work I like, there could be far more work following. The final knobs will be produced in metal. They will need to be strong enough for daily use, stunning to look at, and capable of being screwed into a cabinet, which means they should have a threaded screw hole capable of receiving an 8-32 screw. The knob diameter can be anywhere between 1 1/4 inches and 1 1/2 inches. Also, the final piece needs to be capable of being submitted directly to Shapeways, and conform to all of their criteria for strength, wall thickness, etc. I'm not a techie, so if I have to modify anything to upload it, the knob is never going to get made.
Wants:
I'm looking for designs that are beautiful, unique, and highlight what one can do with 3D printing. I'd love the winning piece to be something that can generate buzz, that people will share online as it's shows this uniqueness. Yet, as I'm selling functional hardware, it still needs to work well as a knob.
Don't Wants:
I'm not looking for any designs that could be made through other means, such as through a mold. I want designs that highlight the unique capabilities of 3D printing.
Software:
- AutoCAD (latest)
- anything that works with Shapeways
Additional Information
I received the question from one of the designers, since I specified a diameter, does the knob have to be round. That's a great question. The knob can be any shape whatsoever.I just found out that the 3D printing technology can't handle the threaded piece for the screw, so I imagine that component will have to be added later. Thus, it's not necessary to have the threading in your designs, just a place for the threading to go. 1/8" diameter holes in the CAD Design should be sufficient for adding the threads post-production.
I've been getting questions regarding when I'm going to choose a winner. I apologize for the delay. There are a number of beautiful designs that I like quite a bit. However, I need to verify that all of them will successfully print and be strong enough for daily use. As I'm not an expert in these areas, it's taking me some time to complete this aspect.

The most common length is 3 inch drill centers, which means the distance between the screws.

Secret Electrical Box
Hi all, We are looking for a 3D design of electrical box, There is a plug on the box to connect EV charger cable( the side with the holes example 1) and the other side should be able to connect to the electricity plug on the wall. There are 2 LED lights on it, one for one/off 1 for active. There is one button on the box that is called override. We would first choose the best design and then change the colour and logo to match our preferences. The box size should not be bigger than 15x20 cm.
